Lindwell

A former Primitive Methodist chapel opened in 1837 from a society started in 1821 when Rev Jeremiah Gilbert and Thomas Halliday came over from Barnsley and preached at the well. 10,000 people having attended a meeting on Greetland Moor in that year. The chapel was extended in 1897.

Programme and Opportunities

Worship and Study

There is a Sacrament of the Lord's Supper at 9am on the alternate first Sunday of the month.

Morning worship takes place alternate Sundays at 10.30am. See plan or contact contact the Minister

Family services take place at 10.30 am on the last Sunday in the month at either Greetland or Lindwell.

Sunday School is at 10.30 am every Sunday (except Family service days) at either Greetland or Lindwell.

There are occasional services with other churches in the area on Sunday evenings.

Serving and Meeting People

Christian and Community Involvement

A newsletter is distributed to the local area periodically.

A Harvest Auction is usually held at the Star Inn for the charity auction of produce from the Harvest Festival.

'Youthies' 11-16 years meet Sunday evenings 6 - 8pm

Table Tennis and Supper: Fridays at 7.30pm

Lindwell choir meets Thursday at 7.30pm

Here is a map of Greetland. Lindwell is accessible by foot on the path and steps opposite Lower Wellgate, leading away from Rochdale Road. There is vehicular access but no parking on Carriage Lane (or Carriage Drive).
