ST PAUL’S METHODIST CHURCH
TOWER HILL, SOWERBY BRIDGE. HX6 2EQ
There has been a Methodist Church presence within the town for well over 200 years and our current premises are the third to be erected on this site which is located a mere 100 metres from the town centre. The first building dating from 1851 soon became too small and was replaced in 1874 with a much larger three storey building which was extensively adapted and modernised in 1979 to become St. Paul’s, a centre of worship and outreach able to mission the town. These premises were in turn totally destroyed by fire on Easter Day 1988 but re-opened in October 1990 to a design having improved access, greater flexibility of layout and much better equipped to meet the needs both of the church and the local community. The church has developed close links with the other Christian denominations within the town and these modern, comfortable premises are now extensively used by numerous local service providers, community groups and charitable organisations in addition to those church organisations which are listed below.
