Stones

The present Stones Methodist Church building was erected in 1902, replacing the 1804 chapel that had become inadequate for the needs of the time and in disrepair. Major modifications since 1995 have greatly enhanced facilities for worship and for outreach. A £400,000 refurbishment in 2004 beneath the worship area has provided ultra-modern Sunday School, crèche and community rooms (see pictures). Please see Bookable Facilities section below. Hilltops Playcentre, run by Church members on-site for the past 20 years, provides valuable links with families in the neighbourhood.

Programme and Opportunities

Worship and Study

Morning Worship at 10.30am. Family services are held monthly. Otherwise the children and young people generally leave the service at 11am to attend crèche or Sunday School. Coffee is served after morning worship.

Serving and Meeting People

Hilltops Playcentre – Monday to Thursday during term time

Baby and Toddler group meets weekly at 9.30am on Fridays (please contact Ros Denton on 01422-822165)

Monthly Friday Get-together at 2.30pm – activity or speaker followed by afternoon tea

Dance Classes (privately run) - tap, ballet, modern, street dancing etc for children and adults on-site throughout the week (please contact Abigail Warburton on 07921 656652).

Christian and Community Involvement

Stones joins with Anglican friends from St Bartholomew’s Church, Ripponden, Christ Church, Barkisland and St John’s Church, Rishworth in Christian Aid activities, Lent and Advent meetings.

Bookable Facilities

Modern, multi-purpose, high quality, refurbished rooms (see pictures) are available for hire at reasonable cost. These rooms are eminently suitable for functions, meetings, conferences, concerts/performances, leisure activities and self-help groups.
